I have a user that wants to use some of the APC tools to figure out what to sell customers. No big deal, right?
We have group policies in place to prohibit users from downloading and installing unsigned activex controls. Because by allowing users to install only approved and signed activex controls we eliminate quite a few problems. It’s just common sense.
But APC requires a self-signed activex control to be installed. Boo. The users don’t have rights to install them, so usually I find an MSI or EXE file to push out to their desktop. I googled for APC’s own brew of this controller, but nothing is available. So I did the unthinkable – I contacted their technical support.
Issac: Hi, how may I help you?
Jason: I have an employee looking to install the APC Design Portal active x controls, but since they’re unsigned I was hoping to find some sort of installer program for them instead
Issac: Jason, may I know the Model number of the UPS?
Jason: There is no UPS, this is a web related question
Jason: We have a group policy prohibiting employees from downloading and installing unsigned active x controls into Internet Explorer
Jason: so I’m looking for the activex controller installer – probably an MSI or EXE file
Issac: Jason, we are supporting Back-UPS only.
Issac: For the concerned issue I request you to contact our toll free number 1-800-800-4272.
Jason: I’ll just tell him no. Thanks anyway
You have disconnected.
Uh, what?
